Privacy Phones

What makes a phone "private"?

Apple has positioned their phones as being "pro-privacy" and when compared to Android...they are. But what are the features that would make a phone more private and secure than an iPhone? Today I'm uncovering a couple hardware and software features that are interesting:

The “Unhackable” Phone Apple Doesn’t Want You To Know About

Go Deeper: For those who prefer to read these kinds of reviews, I'll link to two written articles that we've published that cover the specific privacy phone from the video above as well as a review of secure phones in general.

Mobile Privacy

Hi [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], having lived under the authoritarian rule of the Chinese government, I have a unique perspective on what is possible when it comes to the invasion of our privacy.

A lot of people might hear me talk about features like a "battery disconnect", a scheduled reboot, or an emergency reset and think "Yea...the use case for those features is so narrow!"

And the truth is that you're right - they are narrow. And honestly, not everybody would benefit from having a phone with every one of these high-security features. But the thing I've learned is that you never figure out when you need those features...

...until it's too late.

When somebody has taken your phone or you get stopped by a customs agent at an international airport and they ask to go through your phone.

I still really like my iPhone and consider it a very secure and private device (for now), but things change when I'm traveling or when I enter a highly-sensitive situation. And I like being able to adjust to those needs.

What do you think? Have you ever considered a different kind of phone other than one made by Apple, Google or Samsung?

Home Security from ADT? Try again

The threat group ShinyHunters is claiming responsibility for a data breach of giant home security company ADT last week that exposed the sensitive data of as many as 5.5 million current or potential customers.

"Your iCloud storage is FULL!"

Recent emails claiming to be from Apple with this message include a button you can click on to upgrade your iCloud storage. But the threatening messages are a scam impersonating Apple’s iCloud service, and the criminals behind them are trying to convince you to click on a malicious link.

Your Thoughts?

Have you ever used anything other than an iPhone or Android? If so, what was your experience?

Let me know what you think.

War on Privacy

April 2026 the War on Privacy Stripping Away Our Rights It happens one seemingly insignificant policy at a time. Cameras to protect your neighborhood here, age verification to protect your children there. By themselves, it seems to make a lot of sense, but beneath the surface, there is an erosion of the fourth amendment that we can't surrender easily.
