Home Camera Privacy

Are home camera systems really secure?

WiFi security cameras are everywhere these days: protecting porches, watching for burglars or monitoring your baby nursery. Having a camera isn't a bad thing, but there's an important framework to follow to choose the right one:

Go Deeper: if you like this S.C.O.P.E. framework for this video, let me know! There are other ways you can protect your home, including blurring it and watching for title theft.

"Framework" vs Recommendation

Hi [CORRECTED_NAME GOES HERE], as a security and privacy "influencer" (I hate using that term, but I guess that's what it is), I often feel the burden of recommending the exact right product to secure your personal and digital life. But there's a problem:

All of us have different threat profiles and situations.

The product that fits my needs may not fit yours, even if I like using it. And while I'm still fine sharing what I use on a daily basis, I'm beginning to shift more towards the mindset of sharing a "framework" instead of a "recommendation."

Does that make sense?

So instead of saying "you should buy x security system," a framework provides a set of questions to ask that help us establish what kind of system would work best.

This week I'm sharing with you a framework I developed for home camera systems called "S.C.O.P.E." and I think it does a good job exposing the strengths and weaknesses of different systems that are popular right now.

If you're like me and you've been hesitant to put up a camera in or around your house, you'll enjoy this.

Smile! (you're on candid camera)

Remember that TV show back in the 90s? It's almost funny now to think that people were surprised to find out they were on camera.

Nowadays, we're almost always on camera...and that can be a scary thing!
